Reaching for alternatives to toilet roll? Think again…

April 20, 2020

Taking care of your home and pump station is now more important than ever.

We have seen lots of our customers reaching for alternatives to toilet roll due to the household basics being harder to get, and as a result of this, we have seen more and more pump station blockages.

Due to the nature of wet wipes, they do not break down in water like toilet paper, and in-turn can create blockages in pumps and clog wastewater pipes. If these blockages go unnoticed, the pump station could overflow, and your basement could flood!

With our remote monitoring system (SideWinder Tech™), we can detect signs of blockage early on and prevent the pump from burning out, reducing costly bills for a replacement and a tanker. Our system detects ‘overcurrent‘ situations and alerts the Operations Centre to put a corrective action in place – the graph below shows a recent blockage in SW18 that we attended. The pump was blocked with wet wipes, and we managed to avert a potential flood/costly pump replacement bill for the customer.

The red circles indicate overcurrent.

At PPS, we care about your pump station, so you don’t have to, but to keep your pumps healthy in-between services, we need you to show some love too.

We’ve created a handy Aftercare Card showing you items not to flush. Grab a handy download here!

Remember, bin it, don’t block it. Putting wipes down your toilet is like trying to drive a car with the handbrake on!
